FARMINGTON – Franklin County Superior Court Justice Joseph Jabar sentenced a Phillips man Friday to serve two years and 90 days for assaulting a woman.
William Cochran, 32, has been held in the Franklin County Jail since he was arrested on probation violations last May. In 2001, he was convicted of sexually and physically abusing a Phillips woman. He was sentenced to 10 years in jail with all but 18 months suspended and 10 years’ probation for those charges.
Out on probation in May, he was arrested again after another Phillips woman reported that he sexually and physically assaulted her several times between January 2003 and May 2004, sometimes in front of her children.
Cochran was indicted in June on five new charges of sexual assault and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
In July, Jabar revoked Cochran’s probation.
Cochran pleaded guilty Friday to one count of assault and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. The other charges were dismissed in a plea agreement.
Jabar sentenced him to two years and 90 days concurrent with the sentence he is serving.
