RUMFORD – In honor of Dot Sanchas, Mitzi Sequoia is organizing a community walk to begin at 8 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, from Rumford to Dixfield at Hosmer Field, to raise funds for Santa’s Helpers. No preregistration fee is required. Walkers should ask friends and neighbors to sponsor their walk with a contribution to the Santa’s Helpers or by purchasing a new toy or gift for children for Christmastime. Aircraft parking apron on agenda

BETHEL – Members of the Bethel Airport Authority are scheduled to hear a presentation by the consulting firm Dufresne-Henry at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, in the town office.

The topic is expansion of the aircraft parking apron at Bethel Regional Airport.

Other agenda items include fuel pricing, fuel tank certification, a discussion about the authority’s Oct. 9 Fall Foliage Fly-In and Classic Car Show event, and tie-down rents.

Baldacci to attend Rumford supper

RUMFORD – Gov. John Baldacci will be the guest of honor at a supper at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, at the Eagles Hall, sponsored by the Oxford County Democratic Committee and the Democratic Committees in Mexico and Rumford. Also in attendance will be local candidates, including state Sen. Bruce Bryant, and state Reps. John Patrick, Linda Petrie and Tim Carter.

Event chairman Rep. John Patrick is working with chef Dennis Arsenault of the Eagles Club to plan a veal pot roast dinner. Tickets will be $7 for adults, $6 for seniors and children under 12. Tickets will be available at the door. There will be a silent auction and the drawing for the raffle of a hand-crafted ice fishing box, as well as the traditional 50/50 raffle. Items to be donated for the silent auction may be dropped off at the Mexico Democratic Field Office, 77 Main St.

Painting seminar is scheduled

RUMFORD – Pennacook Art Center, 82 Congress St., has scheduled its first Gallery Talk for 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29. The topic will be “What makes a Good Painting?”

The basic elements of painting will be discussed, including composition, light, color and brushwork. Paintings in the gallery will be used for examples. This will be the first in a series of informative talks offered by the gallery. The talk is free and open to the public. Anyone is welcome to attend, whether they are a beginning painter, a professional, or an art lover.
