INDUSTRY – Orders for a takeout dinner will be accepted until Wednesday, Oct. 20, and may be picked up from 4 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at Industry Town Hall. The meal includes one quart of homemade baked beans, cole slaw, four rolls and one apple pie for $12. People may call 778-5100 to place an order. This is a fund-raiser sponsored by the Industry Fire Department’s auxiliary.

Minimysteries presented

LIVERMORE FALLS – Drama classes at Livermore Falls High School will present two minimysteries at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, at the school. A display of student artworks will also be available for viewing.

The public and families are welcome to visit the arts program at LFHS and attend the performance on Thursday. This will be the first public performance these drama classes. More information may be obtained by calling the high school at 897-3428.

Author featured in UMF series

FARMINGTON – James McKean, winner of the Great Lakes Association’s New Writer Award, will be the featured author this month at the University of Maine at Farmington’s Visiting Writers Series. McKean will read from his new collection of essays, “Home Stand: A Memoir of Growing Up in Sports,” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, in Thomas Auditorium in Ricker Hall.

The event is free and open to the public. A book signing will follow the reading.

McKean teaches creative writing and literature at Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

FARMINGTON – The UMF Faculty Forum will feature UMF assistant professor of political science James Melcher speaking on “First in Its College Class: Maine and the District Plan for Electoral College Reform.” The forum is from 12:25 to 1:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, in North Dining Hall of Olsen Student Center. It is free and open to the public.

Racket Factory to perform

FARMINGTON – A traditional music band, the Racket Factory, will perform at the G.I. Coffee House from 7 to 10 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 22, at Old South Congregational Church. The group features Margaret Cox, Cynthia Phinney and Hank Washburn on fiddles, Mark Rains on bass and Eric Johnson on guitar, with all members singing. They perform a mix of fiddle tunes, a capella songs and more modern folk and country songs. The group takes its name from the building at the four corners in New Sharon, which used to be a factory that manufactured tennis and badminton racquets. These musicians may be familiar to local audiences, as members have played in other musical groups, including Northfield, Scrod Pudding, The Usual Suspects, the House Band and the New Sharon Volunteer String Band and Auxiliary. Donations of such items as books, sunscreen, socks and sunglasses are being collected for the troops, and those attending may being any of the above items to the coffeehouse.

Grange meeting

STRONG – Aurora Grange No. 202 will meet at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, at the Grange hall to reorganize.

Church annual conference

WILTON – East Wilton Union Church will hold its annual Fall Missions Conference Oct. 22-24. Meetings will be at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10:45 a.m. and at 7 p.m. Sunday. President Barry Beebe from New Brunswick Bible Institute will be the keynote speaker, along with Jason and Ita Strout, who are raising support to go on a mission in Argentina. Special music will be performed each evening by a ladies’ trio from N.B.B.I. The public is invited to attend all meetings. More information may be obtained by calling 645-4297.

Benefit supper

FARMINGTON – A benefit supper for Isaac Doiron and Sophie Wilkins, who have both been battling illness, will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at Mt. Blue High School. Entertainment will be provided by the Franklin County Fiddlers, Syncopations and Mt. Blue Voices. Prices for the meal are $5 for adults and $3 for children and students.
