ANDOVER – Residents will have one extra decision to make when they go to the polls on Nov. 2.
Along with choosing a president, congressman and making several other decisions, they will select someone to fill out a selectman’s term.
Town Clerk Elaine Morton said five people returned nomination papers for the seat being vacated by Joan Carney. Carney, a selectman for a little more than 2 years, is moving from the area, leaving five months in her term.
Residents will elect a selectman for a full, three-year term at the annual March town meeting.
Seeking the seat are: Dianne Cutting, a former water district board member; Philenia Chaisson, a Bicentennial Committee member who grew up in Andover, left, then returned a couple of years ago; Laura Hutchins, a former selectman; David Percival, a Land Advisory Board member and past member of the Board of Appeals; and Hope Peterson, the current secretary to the Board of Selectman.
Morton said she doesn’t know why there is so much interest in the selectman’s seat.
The winner will join Selectmen Gertrude Akers and Gerald Savitz Jr.
Carney is also the current chairman of the board.
