NORWAY – A 39-year-old Lisbon man was flown to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston after a rollover accident on Route 117 on Wednesday, police said.
The accident occurred at 5:01 p.m. near the entrance to the Frost Hill Landfill, Maine State Police Trooper Terry James said. Donald Doyon, no street address given, was driving north on Route 117 in a black 1997 Ford Mustang convertible when he attempted to pass a car.
Doyon for some reason steered off the shoulder on his side of the road, James said. As he attempted to correct his course, he drove back onto the road and the car tipped on its side. James said Doyon’s vehicle then crossed the southbound lane and struck an embankment, causing the vehicle to roll as many as three or four times.
James said there were eight witnesses to the accident, but fortunately no other vehicles were involved. Some reported seeing Doyon “passing cars on 117 heading northbound and speeding,” he said. Although he didn’t believe the speed was “egregious,” James said Doyon was driving faster than several cars that were traveling at the speed limit.
Doyon complained of back and neck pain after the accident, James said, expressing surprise that Doyon was listed by medical officials as being in “good” condition. He had been wearing his seat belt and the car’s airbags had deployed, James said.
As for the car, James believed it was totaled. “I’m not an expert, but I would have to say that the poor girl’s run her race,” he said.
