CASTLETON, Vt. – Kristen Allen scored a pair of goals as the University of Maine at Farmington blanked Castleton 6-0 in field hockey action Thursday.

The Beavers’ (11-4) offense started the game strong, outshooting Castleton 12-4 in the first half. Allen scored the first two goals before Kristi Cochin and Mary Sinclair chipped in to make it 4-0 at midpoint.

Goalie Meghan Aher had seven saves for the Spartans (3-13), while Ashley Biette and Rachel Sheloske combined for 10 saves for the Beavers.

Women’s soccer

Maine Maritime 3, UMF 1

FARMINGTON – Amy Asselin converted a free kick for the eventual game-winner as Maine Maritime Academy nudged the University of Maine at Farmington 3-1 in women’s soccer action Thursday.

Stacy Jones scored on a long shot to give the Mariners (8-6-1) a 1-0 lead at the half. Jodie Welch tied the game early in the second half for the Beavers (8-5-3) on an assist from Erin Campbell.

Kerry Kowalcyzk had four saves for the Beavers, while Meghan Marshall had 10 saves on 18 shots for the Mariners.

Men’s soccer

UMF 3, St. Joe’s 1

FARMINGTON – Brian London nailed the eventual game-winner at the 74:32 mark to lift the University of Maine at Farmington to a 3-1 win over St. Joseph’s in men’s soccer action Thursday.

The Beavers (7-6-0) came out fierce, outshooting St. Joseph’s by a margin of 10-1.

Monks (5-9-1) goalie Brian White prevented any scoring in the first half, but Andy Knox finally found a hole in White’s armor with an unassisted goal at the 59:32 mark.

Though Steve Jetts tied the contest less than three minutes later for the Monks, London and Craig Cameron scored down the stretch to seal the victory for the Beavers.

USM 4, UNE 1

BIDDEFORD – Andy Budelman and Kevin Dunham-Conway netted two goals each to lead the University of Southern Maine to a 4-1 victory over the University of New England in men’s soccer action Thursday.

The Huskies (8-3-3) dominated from the outset, but did not find the back of the net until the 33:54 mark when Dunham-Conway converted a header on a corner kick from Zack Rossignol. A trio of goalkeepers combined to make three saves for the Huskies, while Chris Willard was credited with the victory.

Adam St. Gelais scored the Nor’easters’ lone goal with 11:34 to play to prevent a shutout.
