FARMINGTON – Rita F. Desjardins, 77, a resident of Jay, died Oct. 22, at Franklin Memorial Hospital following a long illness.

She was born on May 2, 1927, in Livermore Falls, the daughter of Arthur and Marie Louise Bouchard Gervais. She was a 1945 graduate of Livermore Falls High School.

On Aug. 4, 1947, she married Raymond Desjardins at St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay. He passed away on April 11, 1994.

She worked at Wilson’s Department Store, Dunton’s Clothing Store in Livermore Falls and later at the Livermore Falls High School cafeteria.

For a number of years she taught cake decorating, knitting and crafts for the Adult Education Program and for many years had her own cake decorating business specializing in wedding cakes.

She did volunteer work for Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, working with the fundraising committee and was a visiting volunteer at the Victorian Villa Nursing Home in Canton. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, touring the United States, Canada, Europe, the British Isles, Hawaii, and also cruising the Caribbean.

She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay, a member of the Daughters of Isabella, the Pine Cone Quilters and the Jay-Livermore Falls Senior Citizens.

She is survived by three sons, Rick and his wife, Anne, of Esko, Minn., James, of Greene and Dan, of Jay; three grandchildren, Caleb, Amanda and Brian Desjardins; a stepgrandson, Shane Holland; three stepgreat-grandchildren, Reece, Mackenzie and Riley Holland; a sister, Marguerite Cloutier, of Livermore Falls; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Laurier Gervais and Ralph Gervais, two sisters, Yvonne Shuman and Yolande Turcotte.
