PORTLAND (AP) – Trent Whitfield scored shorthanded at 3:15 of overtime, lifting the Portland Pirates past the Lowell Lock Monsters 3-2 Saturday.
The game was tied at one at the second intermission and tied at two at the end of regulation. After a scoreless first period, Jeff Paul gave Portland the lead when he scored the first goal of the game at 4:09 of the second period, then Chuck Kobasew tied it at 12:07.
Eric Staal sent the Lock Monsters ahead 2-1 at 10:27 of the third, but Michel Periard tied it again on the power play with 5:56 remaining.
