Congratulations to the Central Maine Shockers on a great season. They may have fallen one game short of the Division A championship, but they showed their fans how much heart and determination they have.

The Shockers are an elite group of players and coaches, most of whom grew up in this area. You would probably recognize many of their names from their high school careers. They come out every week of the season to play hard, play fair and show their fans a good game.

Their first year in the New England Football League (2003) they were voted organization of the year. This past spring, they came out to support the Healthy Communities campaign. All of this and the Sun Journal still all but overlooks them.

On Oct. 16, their championship game was played at the LAP field. It is being heralded as the best semi-pro game ever played, yet there was no mention of it in this paper. It’s not for lack of trying.

Over 200 fans turned out to enjoy the Shockers’ games. The grandstand was full and the sidelines were packed. The city of Lewiston, however, wants to take this field away from the Shockers. They have already taken their practice field away, now they want to leave the Shockers without a field to play on.

The Sun Journal and the city of Lewiston are missing the boat. This city is going to lose something great. Wake up before it is too late.
