LEWISTON – Jeff Weeks, a freelance mathematician and author of the book, “The Shape of Space,” offers a multimedia presentation by the same title at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, in the Filene Room of Pettigrew Hall at Bates College.

Presented by the college mathematics department, the annual Richard W. Sampson Lecture is open to the public at no cost.

Weeks’ presentation uses computer games, interactive 3-D graphics and satellite data to propose some possible configurations of the universe. Weeks, of Canton, N.Y., received a MacArthur Foundation “genius” fellowship in 1999. His present research centers on a collaboration with cosmologists to test the shape of the universe using satellite data.
