MEXICO – The Wellness Center and the possible merging of the police departments of Mexico and Dixfield will be among the agenda items at Wednesday’s selectmen’s meeting.
Both matters have been before the board for months or years.
The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. with a continuation of a meeting with the town’s auditor to review the municipal books. At the previous meeting, auditor Keel Hood advised town officials to start building a surplus once a shortfall of $100,000 is returned to the general account.
The regular meeting begins at 6:30 p.m.
Members of the Wellness Center board and staff want to work out a plan with selectmen to continue to lease space at the Mexico Recreation Center. The center has leased space at the site for several years.
Town Manager Joseph Derouche will update the board on talks with Dixfield for the possible merger of the two police departments, a step that some believe would reduce costs for both towns.
Other agenda items include setting a meeting date with the River Valley Technology Center director to get an update on job creation at the tech center. The town of Mexico sponsored a Community Development Block Grant, tied to job creation, that benefited the center.
Two closed sessions are scheduled to discuss a town manager personnel matter and to discuss communication between board members.
