LISBON (AP) – Students at Maine schools gave Democrat John Kerry a narrow victory over Republican President George Bush on Tuesday in a mock election that is part of a national nonpartisan civic education project.

Students at more than 400 schools cast ballots for candidates for president, Congress, aand two referendums.

Unofficial results showed that Kerry received 27,986 votes, or 46.2 percent of the votes cast, to Bush’s 27,666 votes, or 45.7 percent, said Deputy Secretary of State Doug Dunbar. Independent Ralph Nader got 5.2 percent.
