FARMINGTON – Mildred H. Bird, 89, of Farmington, formerly of Warwick, R.I., died early Tuesday morning, Oct. 27, at the Sandy River Center for Health Care.

She was born, Nov. 18, 1914, in Strong, a daughter of John Allan and Pearl (Von Sotta) Hagerstrom. She attended Strong, Fairbanks, and Farmington schools and graduated from Farmington Normal School and the Bryant & Stratton Business School in Boston, Mass.

While working in Boston, she met and married, James E. Bird of Providence, R.I., in 1948. Mr. Bird died in 1980.

Mrs. Bird worked as a private secretary in Providence until her retirement.

She was a member of the Rhode Island Budgevair Society and the Rhode Island Dance Teachers Association. She loved to dance and taught round dancing well into her 80’s. She also loved to travel and enjoyed many trips with her late husband, James.

She is survived by a stepdaughter, Carol Levreault and her husband, Bob, of Norfolk, Mass.; two stepgrandchildren, Jeff and Gail; a brother, John Hagerstrom and his wife, Louise, of Strong; two sisters, Mabel Blanchard and her husband, Norman, of Winn and Alice Parlin and her husband, Robert, of Farmington; many nieces and nephews.
