The Palesky tax cap is dangerous because it could mean the end of local control.

The only tax rate which is determined at the local level is the property tax rate. This is the only source of funds for local government without begging from the state. It is true that the state will not allow certain local services to stop, but we will no longer control them. When the state gives more money to local governments, the state will tell us how to spend the money.

If the property tax cap becomes law, we might as well stop having town meetings. It has always been true that whoever controls the purse strings controls the spending.
