WESTBROOK – Ray Sawyer, 69, of Mentor Street, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, Oct. 26.

He was born Feb. 9, 1935, in Berlin, N.H., the son of Edward and Dorothy Sawyer. He was brought up in Lewiston and graduated from Edward Little High School in 1954. He served in the Army from 1956 to 1959.

He owned and operated the Western Auto Store in Westbrook, after having been a sales manager for 15 years. He also worked as a sales manager for various trucking companies.

He was a member of the Elks, the Kora Shrine Temple in Lewiston, and the Mason’s Tranquil Lodge in Auburn.

He enjoyed fishing, golfing, boating and big band music. He was a dedicated family man who thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and extended family.

He is survived by his wife, Janice Chick Sawyer, of Westbrook; three sons, Howard and his wife, Barbara, of Huntsville, Ala., Craig and his wife, Rosalinda, of Kissimmee, Fla., and Tom and his wife, Mary, of Dunellen, N.J.; a daughter, Sherri and her husband, Barry O’Donnell, of Windham; a brother, Jerome, of Loundonville, N.Y.; nine grandchildren, Nichole, Cassandra, Leah, Jocelyn, Raymond, Joshua, Charlie, Chrystal, and Sawyer; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother and best friend, Howard.
