With Election Day fast approaching, people are being bombarded with issues and choices. Even at this time of year, when friends and families can be separated by differences of opinions, the power and the importance of voting can also bring us together.

This year, Maine citizens have the opportunity to honor those who have proudly served their country by going to the polls for our veterans. The “Vote in Honor of a Veteran” program recognizes the contributions of our service people while working to keep our democracy strong by encouraging everyone to cast a ballot on Election Day.

This Election Day, I hope everyone will strengthen our democracy by going to the polls, and make time to honor a veteran with a vote.
