AUBURN – A man was kicked and beaten by a group of Hells Angels late Thursday night at the Midnight Blues club at 34 Court St., Auburn police Lt. Timothy Cougle said.
The fight stemmed from a confrontation at the club Wednesday night, he said.
The man’s identity was not released and his injuries were not believed to be life threatening, he said.
No arrests had been made early Friday, Cougle said.
The lieutenant said police got a call about 10 p.m. of a person being beaten up by a half-dozen or so members of the motorcycle club. When police arrived the injured man and his assailants had fled, he said.
Cougle said six to eight people believed to be members of the Hells Angels came to the club looking for a specific man. “They located him in a back room of the bar and a confrontation ensued,” he said.
Witnesses, he said, told police the man had a beer bottled smashed over his head. “He was kicked and punched by several members of the group.”
The man was able to get to his feet and fled to the Androscoggin County Jail across the street, where he called for help, Cougle said. From there he was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston for treatment of numerous scrapes and bruises over his body.
Cougle said the incident started Wednesday night between the man and one of the Hells Angels at the Midnight Blues club. The man was “promoting some type of an event in Lewiston” and the two “exchanged words,” Cougle said.
