A plea goes out.
A desperate plea. A loving plea. A lonesome plea.
Please, Boston Red Sox, don’t forget about us. We are loyal fans here in Lewiston and Auburn. A parade was scheduled for Wednesday in Portland, but that’s been put on hold. The team says they will find another time to bring the World Series trophy to Maine. When they do, they should consider a short trip up the turnpike for a visit here. It’s just a quick jaunt when you’re riding the wave of World Series elation.
Wouldn’t that be great? The Red Sox right here.
It’s been 86 years since the last Red Sox’ World Series win. That long wait was punctuated by a magical come-from-behind drubbing of arch-rival New York in the American League Championship Series. The Sox then made quick work of the St. Louis Cardinals to capture the long-sought title.
Fans here have been waiting a lifetime, too. You bet we’ll make the trip to Portland if the team parades through that city. But we’d sure love to have them here at home.
