I have been dealing with MaineCare or Medicaid for a few years now, and something has happened to finally push me over the edge and write to the editor.

MaineCare does not want to pay for necessary medications. A friend of mine has cerebral palsy and seizures and had to fight to get her medication. She needs them to survive.

Her son has asthma and needs a special inhaler for the cold season, and MaineCare wouldn’t pay for it. If he catches a common cold without this inhaler, he could die.

Now my wife, who is diabetic, was told she couldn’t get her insulin. All these medicines are necessary for life, not just quality of life. But MaineCare doesn’t care. The system needs help. It needs proper funding so everyone can get the medicine they need to live. MaineCare has no problem paying for over-the-counter allergy medicine, but won’t pay for these others. Why not?
