RUMFORD – Mr. Robert E. Hayes Sr., 75, died Friday, Oct. 29, at his residence on Byron Street in Rumford, with his daughter Susan at his side.

Born in Rumford on Sept. 26, 1929, he was a son of Robert and Marie (Gamache) Hayes.

He was a graduate of Stephens High School in Rumford. He was a Cpl in the U.S. Air Force from 1947 to 1950. He worked for Boise Cascade as a Millright and an Electrician until his retirement in 1992.

Robert was a member of Rumford Falls Aerie No. 1248 FOE, Napoleon Ouellette Post No. 24 American Legion.

He is survived by three daughters; Susan Hayes and her companion, Tim LeCours, of Mexico, Barbara Shotts and her husband, Ronald, of Manchester, N.H., Anna Thurston and her husband, Mark, of Andover; a son, Robert E. Hayes Jr. and his wife, Monica, of Mexico; a brother, Richard H. Hayes and his wife, Carlene, of Florida; several grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a grandson Jeffrey Michael Thurston.
