MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Mr. Roland M. Caron, 62, of Dumont Ave. in Lewiston, died unexpectedly early Saturday morning, Oct. 30, shortly after arrival at the Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Lewiston on Dec. 6, 1941, the son of Maurice and Isabelle (Dubois) Caron.
He was educated at Seminaire de Sherbrooke, St. Joseph’s College in New Brunswick and Ottawa University before returning to this community.
He worked for nearly 30 years at the V.A. Hospital in Togus and was currently employed at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.
He was a longtime and very active member of Holy Cross Church where he served as an eucharistic minister and was also a member of Union Saint-Jean-Baptiste Council Ste. Croix No. 413, where he served as secretary for 41 years. He also served on the board of the Martin Scholarship Fund.
Among his favorite enjoyments were traveling and spending time with family and friends. Roland was a very caring person and a true “caretaker” in every sense of the word. He spent many years giving of himself to care and “minister” to others, both family and friends, when they were in need.
He leaves two sisters, Monita Lavoie, of Yarmouth, and Diane Morissette, of Lewiston; his step-father, Ernest Morissette, of Lewiston; and two nephews, Jason Lavoie and wife, Kristen, of Durham, and Christopher Lavoie, of Yarmouth.
He was predeceased by his father in 1946, and by his mother in January of this year.
