RUMFORD – The Rumford/Mexico area will host a worship weekend on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 6 and 7, designed to enhance the spiritual life of Christians of all denominations. The central feature will be a one-day worship school by music industry leader, educator and former pastor, Gerrit Gustafson.

First Baptist Church of Mexico will sponsor the six-hour school from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6.

After 15 years in pastoral ministry and teaching, in 1985 Gustafson became part of the original creative team of Integrity Music. From there he personally founded Whole Hearted Worship and developed the traveling school format as an approach to teaching the subjects of service, worship and relationships among people of like faith.

For a fee of $10 in advance, $15 at the door, participants will receive a learning experience and a fellowship lunch. For more information about the school and on-line registration, to www.worshipschool.com/mexicomaine/ or call Pastor Bob Peters at the church, 364-8712.

There will be a Saturday evening concert featuring the Christian rock band, Equal Access of Bangor. Founders Scott and Carol Millet, with Trevor Gordon at drums and Dean Richards with guitars, will offer original works, along with other pieces. For more information on the band, visit www.olmedia.com/EqualAccess/.

Concert admission is included in the school ticket and is also available separately for $5. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Events are scheduled to be held at Mountain Valley High School’s Muskie Hall auditorium and cafeteria, 799 Hancock St.

Those interested should plan to register in advance, although organizers will do everything possible to accommodate “at-the-door” attendees.

Rounding out the weekend on Sunday Nov. 7, Gustafson will speak at the 10:45 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. services at First Baptist Church.

The evening service will also include music by worship musicians from area churches. All are invited.
