Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Ashley L. Nadeau, daughter of Deborah and Marcel Nadeau of Lewiston, and her fellow shipmates were recently paid a visit by the Navy and Marine Corps’ top enlisted leaders while serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy.

Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy Terry Scott, joined by Sgt. Major of the Marine Corps John Estrada, spoke to sailors and Marines on board Nadeau’s ship about issues that affect each of their services, and the importance teamwork has played throughout the history of the Navy and Marine Corps.

The USS John F. Kennedy is on a routine scheduled deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Nadeau is a 2001 graduate of Lewiston High School.

Navy Seaman Recruit Scott R. Vyr, son of Rejeanne Blackerby of Sugarhill, Ga., and Norm Vyr of New Gloucester, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Vyr is a 1999 graduate of Lewiston High School.

Navy Seaman Recruit Jay D. Castonguay, son of Patti M. Maillette of Auburn and David A. Castonguay of West Minot, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Castonguay is a 1998 graduate of Edward Little High School.

Navy Seaman Apprentice Joseph P. Ginnett, son of Diane L. and Allen D. Whitmore of Greene, was recently promoted to his current rank upon graduation from recruit training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Ginnett received the early promotion for outstanding performance during all phases of the training cycle. Ginnett is a 2003 graduate of Leavitt Area High School of Turner.

Navy Seaman Recruit Derek P. Hairston, son of Phyllis and Erroll D. Gethers of Auburn, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Hairston is a 2003 graduate of Edward Little High School.
