To answer the question (Oct. 29 Franklin edition, local news): Did they cross the road?

The answer is yes. We notified the Jay Police Wednesday afternoon of the flock of birds in the road. Two had been hit by traffic and were in the road while the rest were walking down the road. Traffic was swerving dangerously to avoid them.

We pulled over and called the police and stayed to keep the birds out of the road. We didn’t want to leave and then hear of an accident as we were afraid someone would get hurt or worse. After 45 minutes, a lady came and said the police had called her as the birds belonged to her husband. Obviously this had been a problem before; the police knew who to call.

Public safety wasn’t served. At the very least, animal control should have seen that the birds were removed.
