Men’s club

PHILLIPS – The Phillips Men’s Club will meet for a 6:15 p.m. supper Thursday, Nov. 4, at the Community House. Capt. Steve Smith and team members Jerry Haines, Terry Haines and Steve Haines will serve.

Class of 1955

JAY – Members of the Jay High School Class of 1955 are invited to a meeting to help plan their 50th class reunion. Local art display

FARMINGTON – The work of artist Marni Lawson of Temple will be on display during the month of November at Heirlooms of Tomorrow on Routes 2 and 4. An open house will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, and from 10 a.m to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, at Heirlooms of Tomorrow in honor of her work.

Art contest exhibit

LIVERMORE – The Norlands Living History Center will host a free art exhibit of the entries submitted to their 30th anniversary commemorative art contest, “Capture the Beauty of the Norlands,” from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6. One of the participating area artists will be awarded $1,000, while four others will receive $250 each. The event is an opportunity for people to meet the artists, sample some good home cooking and enjoy the beauty Norlands has to offer. A benefit silent art auction with pieces donated by participating area artists will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. The public is invited. Arts, Crafts Show

FARMINGTON – The University of Maine at Farmington will hold its annual Arts and Crafts Show from 9 a.m to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, in Olsen Student Center. More than 40 artists and craft makers from across Maine are expected to attend the show. All items for sale are handmade or homemade by the artists. Sale items include stained glass, jewelry, pressed floral art, hand-painted wood and jars, baskets, original paintings and prints of watercolors, pastels, and oils, wreaths, hand-knitted items, quilts, horse blankets and vests, wind chimes, metal decor, greeting cards, pottery, birdhouses, hand-sewn crafts, hand-spun yarn, and country crafts. Church holds ordination ceremony

NEW VINEYARD – Mountain View Bible Church will conduct an ordination ceremony for Pastor Richard Dubuc at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 7, at the church. Members of Mountain View invite other churches in the area to attend the ceremony. There will be a fellowship time after the ceremony in the new Fellowship Room at the church. The church also plans to host a special speaker, Jamie Charles, at 6 p.m. on Nov. 14. Charles will give a presentation on her work in Haiti. The public is welcome to attend.

Haitian hurricane benefit

FARMINGTON – A communitywide silent auction, titled “Time, Talent and Treasure,” to benefit the victims of Hurricane Jeanne in Haiti, will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7, in the North Dining Hall at the University of Maine at Farmington. Area church and community members will donate gifts of their time and talents for auction, in addition to numerous items such as a collection of Red Sox baseball cards, original art, ski passes and gift certificates. Complimentary refreshments will be served, and door prizes and entertainment will be part of the event. Alzheimer’s Association

WILTON – Liz Weaver, Maine Alzheimer’s Association program director, will speak at the next meeting of the Conversation Series about Memory Loss and Dementia from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8, at SeniorsPlus Community Building on Routes 2 and 4. The topic will be communication and dealing with challenging behaviors. There is no charge for the program, which is presented by the Alzheimer’s Association in collaboration with the Healthy Community Coalition, Franklin Resource Network and SeniorsPlus. Christianity program

STARKS – Church of Christ Presbyterian will sponsor an Alpha Program beginning Nov. 9. The 10-week program is designed to answer people’s questions about Christianity. The program is free and space is available. More information may be obtained by calling Ann Marie at 696-1064.
