Incumbent Rep. Stanley A. Moody, D-Manchester, was being challenged by Edward W. Hendsbee Jr., a Republican, of Belgrade to represent constituents in Belgrade, Fayette, Manchester, Mount Vernon and Vienna.

Moody, who won the House District 80 seat in 2002 as a Republican, joined the Democratic Party in December 2003. He said he made the change so that he could more successfully influence government action on small-business issues and further his lifelong agenda to improve Maine’s business climate, according to a state Web site.
