HARRISON – Northeast Bank recently donated $7,500 to the Harrison Village Library, which has about $130,000 left to raise for its major capital campaign.

The $525,000 project allowed the Caswell Public Library to expand and relocate from its previous location at 42 Main St. in Harrison to the former town office.

“Northeast Bank joins the ranks of other grant donor organizations like the Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation, the Betterment Fund and the Maine Community Fund,” said Debbie Gahm, the steering committee chair and chief fund-raiser for the project. “The local community and businesses have really come together in support of this project; we look forward to achieving our goal – a new library with no mortgage,” Gahm said.

The new Harrison Village Library celebrated its official opening on Oct. 2. Shelly Smith, business development officer for the local Northeast Bank branch, said the library “will be a great enhancement to our small town, and Northeast Bank is proud to be a supporter. We’ve had a branch in Harrison since 1976 and being a part of this type of growth is very exciting,” she said.

The Caswell Public Library opened in 1909 and serves a community of 2,450.

Donations to the Harrison Village Library project can be made by sending them to the Harrison Village Library, P.O. Box 597, Harrison, ME 04040.
