BYRON – David Duguay is excited and raring to go on his new position as Oxford County commissioner for District 2.
In unofficial results, Republican Duguay received 4,993 votes, about 500 more than incumbent Commissioner Fredric Kennard, a Democrat, who took 4,466 votes.
Kennard has served as Oxford County commissioner representing northern Oxford County towns and townships for 10 years. This was Duguay’s first try for the four-year term on the commission.
“I can’t wait to get to work,” said Duguay, who was contacted Wednesday afternoon as he was gathering political signs in Canton. “I was pretty relieved that it was all over.”
He expects his new job will begin at the first of the year.
“I had a very respectable and worthy opponent,” said Duguay.
Kennard said Duguay would make a fine commissioner.
Tops among Duguay’s concerns is the overcrowding at the Oxford County Jail, something he believes can be addressed through creative problem-solving.
