TORONTO – Chris Bosh had 20 points and the Toronto Raptors handed Tracy McGrady and the Houston Rockets their second straight loss, 95-88 on Wednesday night.

Houston’s duo of McGrady and Yao Ming improved from their poor performance against the Pistons on Tuesday, but not enough to save the Rockets. McGrady, acquired in the offseason, scored 21 points, but only two after the third quarter.

Yao, who had just seven points against Detroit, finished with 17 points.

Vince Carter, who asked for a trade this summer, added 16 points and six assists for the Raptors to help Sam Mitchell win in his first game as Toronto’s coach.

Jalen Rose added 17 points for the Raptors, one of four players to score 15 or more points. Point guard Rafer Alston, a free agent signing in the offseason, had 15 points, eight assists and seven rebounds.

Mavs 106, Hornets 91

NEW ORLEANS – Dirk Nowitzki, Michael Finley and Jerry Stackhouse helped the Dallas Mavericks ruin Byron Scott’s debut as coach of the New Orleans Hornets.

All three scored 19 points, and Dallas and had three others reach double figures in a 106-91 victory Wednesday night in the Hornets’ first game in the Westeren Conference.

The Mavericks, coming off a season-opening victory over Sacramento a night earlier, shot 54 percent and saw no drop-off despite using Stackhouse and Jason Terry (18 points) in reserve roles.

Magic 93, Bucks 92

ORLANDO, Fla. – Steve Francis made a game-winning basket with two-tenths of a second remaining, and scored 26 points in his Orlando debut to lead the new-look Magic to a 93-92 victory Wednesday night over the Milwaukee Bucks.

Grant Hill, in his first regular-season action since Jan. 16, 2003, scored 20 points. Top draft pick Dwight Howard had 12 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks.

The Bucks took a 92-91 lead on Michael Redd’s banked-in jumper with 3.5 seconds to play.

On the final possession, Hill inbounded from the left to Francis at the top the arc. Francis beat Mo Williams on the turn to the basket and got the shot off despite being fouled.

The buzzer sounded as the shot fell.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Antawn Jamison scored 34 points Wednesday night to help the Washington Wizards hand the Memphis Grizzlies a 103-91 loss in the first regular-season game at the new FedExForum.

Juan Dixon had 28 points and Jarvis Hayes added 20 points and nine rebounds for the Wizards, who outscored Memphis 32-11 in the third quarter to take control.

Laron Profit added 11 points for Washington, which had just eight players in uniform due to injuries and suspensions.

Heat 100, Nets 77

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Shaquille O’Neal caught the ball deep in the low post, used his oversized posterior to bump Alonzo Mourning out of the way, then dropped in a layup with no one else around.

Miami’s new center had his way against a familiar face from the Heat’s recent past, shooting 7-for-9 from the field and scoring 16 points in a 100-77 victory Wednesday night over the New Jersey Nets.

It was anything but a dominant debut in black for O’Neal, who was acquired over the summer from the Los Angeles Lakers for three starters and a first-round draft pick.

Pacers 109, Cavaliers 104

CLEVELAND – They’re limping. They’re aching. They’re bandaged. And somehow, the Indiana Pacers are 1-0.

Ron Artest scored 31 points and Jamaal Tinsley added 15 points and 14 assists as the banged-up Pacers opened the season with a 109-104 double-overtime win against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night.

Artest didn’t decide to play on sore right knee until shortly before tipoff, and then gave the Pacers everything he had, adding nine rebounds in 50 minutes.

Zydrunas Ilgauskas had 35 points and 18 rebounds for the Cavaliers, who were unable to take advantage of Indiana’s injuries.

T-wolves 99, Knicks 93

MINNEAPOLIS – Kevin Garnett began his quest to repeat as league MVP with 28 points and 20 rebounds, and the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the New York Knicks 99-93.

Latrell Sprewell, whose complaints about his lack of a contract extension were the talk of the town this week, had 10 points against his former team. Sam Cassell added 19 points and 11 assists for the Timberwolves.

Stephon Marbury, also up against his old club, led the Knicks with 27 points. Jamal Crawford, in his first game with New York since arriving from Chicago in a summer trade, capably filled Allan Houston’s spot in the starting lineup with 22 points on 10-for-23 shooting.

Spurs 101, Kings 85

SAN ANTONIO – Tim Duncan scored 30 points and Brent Barry made three 3-pointers in his Spurs debut, leading San Antonio over the Sacramento Kings 101-85.

San Antonio led by 21 in the fourth quarter before the Kings went on an 11-0 run, capped by an alley-oop dunk by Chris Webber, to cut the difference to 93-83 with three minutes remaining.

Manu Ginobili and Barry then made 3-pointers and Tony Massenburg hit a high-arching turnaround jumper to end the spurt. The Spurs improved to 8-0 in season openers since Duncan joined the team in 1997.

Ginobili finished with 24 points, and Barry had 16 on 6-for-9 shooting. Duncan had 14 rebounds, and Rasho Nesterovic added 12 boards.

Two days after signing a $66 million, six-year contract extension, Tony Parker went 3-for-16 from the floor for the Spurs and finished with 10 points.

Mike Bibby scored 23 points for Sacramento, which lost for the second time in two nights in Texas. Dallas defeated the Kings on Tuesday.

Webber scored 18 points and Peja Stojakovic had 15 for Sacramento, but they combined to go 12-for-36 from the floor.

A putback by Duncan was San Antonio’s only basket in its first 10 attempts. A 3-pointer by Stojakovic started the Kings on their way to a 13-4 lead in the opening minutes.

The Spurs fought back and took their first lead at 20-19 on a baseline drive by Parker late in the first quarter.

The teams traded baskets for much of the second before San Antonio ended the period with a 13-4 run for a 52-45 lead at halftime.

Duncan had 20 points and 10 rebounds at the break.

Notes: The victory was No. 397 for Spurs coach Gregg Popovich. … Since joining the NBA in 1976, the Spurs are 19-10 in season openers. … Stojakovic missed his third free-throw attempt of the night, ending his streak at 49. Bibby holds the team record of 51 straight. … The Kings complete the so-called Texas Triangle with a game in Houston on Saturday.
