OXFORD – Construction of the new access road into the Oxford Hills Business Park is due to begin this week.

Marcy Boughter, development manager for EnterpriseMaine, said Bridgecorp of Augusta has been awarded the contract to build the 650-foot road from Route 26 to the Number Six Road.

She said the road, positioned between Oxford Homes and the Oxford Public Safety Building, will serve the park and create a safer way for traffic to enter and exit Route 26.

The Oxford Development Corp. will be meeting with Oxford officials and residents soon to discuss making the current Number Six Road either one way entering from Route 26, or closing it off at the junction of Number Six and Route 26, Boughter said.

Boughter said the Number Six Road/Route 26 intersection has proven to be dangerous in the past.

That’s why traffic exiting the Number Six Road onto Route 26 will be rerouted down the new access road, she said.

This $465,000 project was partially funded by the Municipal Investment Trust Fund Grant that was awarded to the Oxford Development Corp. through the town in April.
