SUMNER – SAD 39 voters have traditionally supported school building projects, and Tuesday was no different.

By a 2-1 ratio, voters of Hartford, Sumner and Buckfield agreed to fix the heating system at the Hartford-Sumner Elementary School.

The vote was 1,460 yes, 658 no, to borrow $39,532 from a state Revolving Renovation Fund.

Superintendent Richard Colpitts said the SAD 39 Board of Directors was expected to ratify the vote at Wednesday’s meeting and begin ordering parts from the contractor, Honeywell International Inc.

“We’re ecstatic. It was a strong message of support from the community,” Colpitts said.

He said plans are to replace the boiler first, and have the work done in the afternoons and evenings to limit the disruption to classes.

“It may come to the point where we have to move some classrooms around” if the weather gets too cold, he said. Work will start sometime in November or early December and take six weeks to finish.
