DURHAM, N.H. (AP) – The University of New Hampshire has dropped three of four violations against a student who put up signs telling freshman women to lose weight.
Timothy Garneau, 20, of Berlin was kicked out of his dorm last month after putting up fliers telling female students they would lose weight by taking the stairs instead of the elevator. He said he made the signs as a joke after having to wait for the elevator.
while some students used it to travel one or two floors – Garneau lived on the seventh floor of Stoke Hall.
UNH evicted Garneau and charged him with harassment, disorderly conduct and dishonesty violations. Last week UNH dismissed the harassment and disorderly conduct violations and said Garneau can move back to the dorm – if room is available. Now a civil liberties group is asking to have the dishonesty violation dismissed, too.
Garneau says he’s been living in his car since he was evicted.
