FARMINGTON – Elks Lodge No. 2430 and Emblem Club No. 460 will present their annual joint benefit show this weekend.

More than 20 performers will present musical numbers, many with a satirical twist akin to “Saturday Night Live” or Weird Al Yankovic.

At dress rehearsal Wednesday night, club members roared with laughter watching costumed Elks and Emblems perform under the lights, evoking the likes of Rod Stewart and Peggy Lee, to name just a few.

The benefit show has become a mainstay for the organizations’ charity work for the past six years, raising between $3,000 and $4,000 each year, according to Emblem Club member Connie Small.

The two groups donate money directly back into the community in the form programs such as the Abused Women’s Advocacy Program, Maine Children’s Cancer Program, and Boy and Girl scouts. They also award several educational scholarships.

Despite minor glitches, eliciting a reminder from master of ceremonies Steve Bull that Wednesday night’s show was a dress rehearsal, the show was well-executed.

“It always comes together,” said Small.
