WINTHROP – With voter turnout the highest the town of Winthrop has ever seen, the race for the state Legislature there was close.
Patrick S. Flood won the seat by only 89 votes. Winthrop Town Clerk Lisa Gilliam reported Wednesday that 83 percent of registered voters there cast ballots.
Although Flood, a Republican, won the overall race gaining 2,670 votes to MacDonald’s 2,581, he was defeated in Readfield by a slim margin by Democratic opponent William D. MacDonald, 812 to 799.
