SURVEY SAYS: A new U.N. report says the world’s population will have stabilized at about 9 billion people in 2030. The average woman will give birth to two children.
PEOPLE EVERYWHERE: The global population will grow by 57 million every year until 2050, to 8.9 billion people.
LONG LIFE: Average life expectancy will be 95 years. In Japan it will be 106 years.
GUESSING GAME: Deviation from the report’s model results in huge changes. If women average 1.85 children, the population shrinks to 2.3 billion. If they average 2.35, it balloons to 36.4 billion.
