My husband and I have two children who attend Farwell School. I have been involved with Farwell since 1999, when my son started kindergarten.

I am currently the president of our PTA. I spend a great deal of time in this overrun building.

When I volunteer in the classrooms each week, I see firsthand the lack of space. The classrooms are crowded. Working one-on-one with a child is difficult when other things are being done in the room. We use the hall at times, but other groups try to use the hall as well. Of course, everyone who walks by in the hall is a distraction for children.

The cafeteria serves as our gym. We do not have a music-band room like Montello. Therefore, my son, who is learning to play the saxophone this year, does so in a very small room that barely holds four or five seats. Anyone could imagine how loud that is for the band teacher and those students.

Of course, I have almost forgotten about the kindergartners. They have their room outside of the main building in a portable trailer. The library is also a portable building along with one other. This is of the utmost inconvenience, especially in inclement weather.

We need to have a larger school. All children should fit in one spacious building with all health and safety issues up to standards. This is why I will be voting in favor of the Farwell School expansion project on Dec. 7.
