CANTON – Clarence L. “Gus” Varnum Jr., 64, a resident of Jewett Hill Road in Canton, died Friday, Nov. 5, at his home following a long illness.

He was born on June 29, 1940, in Rumford, the son of Clarence L., Sr. and Bertha Chase Varnum and attended the Sumner schools. “Gus” worked at Decoster Egg Farms in Turner for 20 years, retiring in February of 2000.

He enjoyed having coffee at the Big Apple in the morning and spending time with children.

He is survived by a brother, Harold Varnum Sr., of Canton; a grandnephew, Dillon Varnum; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Wallace Varnum.
