Editor’s note: Every day there are rays of light that shine into the lives of people through their neighbors, their co-workers, their families and even through complete strangers. This column is devoted to exposing these sunbeams to the light and offering readers an opportunity to share good news. We plan to occasionally offer up our own sunbeams, too.
Good to us

I would like to thank the many people who were in Wal-Mart on Saturday afternoon. There was a man named Mark who was a true firefighter, a nurse named Cathy, a woman with a cell phone, a store manager who was on his toes; they all helped without a second thought.

Thank you! I don’t know any of these people, but they all were truly good to us, so I would like to thank every one of them from the bottom of my heart, and that is including the paramedics, the doctor and the nurses at the hospital.

Again, thank you! My granddaughter Krissy is 3 years old, and she had a seizure Saturday at Wal-Mart. She is fine! Thanks to all the quick help we received. She had an infection and is being treated.

Thank you.

Quick response

I just want to say to all firefighters, rescue and emergency teams that worked on the fire at 15 Cottage St., thank you, thank you, thank you.

From Growing Opportunities, which occupies the first floor of 13 Cottage and from all of the dancers past and present whose spirits reside in Art Moves Dance Studio, we are all feeling blessed right now – blessed to have a response team as quick and thorough as we have in Norway.

To Bill and all those who lived at 15 Cottage, so sorry for your losses. And again, to the Norway Fire Department, from the bottom of my heart, Thank you.

Helping hands

To our friends and community who have helped us from the first moment our barn was struck by lightning: Thank you.

The firefighters did an amazing job. Afterward, while we stood not knowing where to begin, help arrived. You picked up shovels and began clearing the debris. You removed every bit of water-soaked dry-wall and insulation and buttoned the house up to keep it safe. Reinforcements appeared over the weekend, people we had worked with, friends we knew well, and neighbors with whom we had only exchanged a hello.

Those first two weeks, we had meals and wonderful places to stay. Thanks to a Sun Journal article saying we needed a long-term rental while our home was reconstructed, you found us one and established a fund for us. Two weeks later, those who loved the farm as much as we did organized a well-attended dinner with copious quantities of food. The offers of help still come in.

The kindness has overwhelmed and sustained us and made it all bearable. You have helped us in so many ways; please know your efforts and offers have touched us deeply.

Successful supper

The Peru Historical Society and the Families in Crisis Task Force wish to thank all who donated to the public supper on Sept. 25. Thank you also to all the individuals who came to the supper and the musical entertainment following the meal.

The money raised from this event goes into a special fund to raise money for the Rockemeka Grange in Peru. These funds are designated for painting the grange, inside and out, new windows and other repairs. Thanks to everyone!

Grateful

We cannot begin to express how grateful we are for the tremendous support we have received from this community over the past three weeks since the loss of our house in a fire on Sept. 25.

The caring, concern and generosity of our friends in the Oxford Hills has been both humbling and heartening, and has truly helped us immensely in dealing with these difficult circumstances. The goodwill of people in this community has been a blessing we will always cherish. We feel embraced, and are proud to call this place our home. We are forever motivated to help pass along this goodwill to others in times of need, and strive to contribute to the welfare of the community in the years to come.

Thank you and God bless you.
