BRIDGTON – The Bridgton Hospital medical staff and employees have set up a reward fund in hopes of solving an attack on a doctor at her home.

“Well-respected Bridgton Hospital family physician and medical staff member Dr. Mary Nash was viciously attacked and injured in her Fryeburg home earlier this fall,” Pam Smith said in a press release issued Friday.

The hospital’s medical staff and employees have established the Dr. Mary Nash Reward Fund at Norway Savings Bank, she said, noting that the staff hopes the public also will contribute to this fund. Smith said it has almost $1,000, and “we are very hopeful it will continue to grow” since people are just learning about it.

Smith, the hospital’s director of development and community relations, said, “Our physicians are critically important members of our community, providing outstanding care to their patients every day of the year. For any doctor to be attacked so viciously, and in his or her own home, is beyond belief. We would like to help the Fryeburg police to solve this crime. We hope this additional reward fund encourages someone to come forward with information.”

This is the second reward fund in this case. Fryeburg police have already received $5,000 in reward money, Smith said.

On Sept. 15, Nash suffered cuts to her hands and head when she returned from a workout at a health club just after 7 a.m. and surprised a man who was inside her home. Police said the man hit her with his fists and a wrench-type tool before she was able to escape and get to a neighbor’s house to call for help.

At the time, police released a composite sketch and a description of a suspect who is a white male, between 20 and 25 years old, around 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighing about 170 to 175 pounds.

Nash has a family practice on Portland Street in Fryeburg, a town she’s lived in for 29 years.

Smith said people who’d like to contribute to the new fund may send a check payable to The Mary Nash Reward Fund to Norway Savings Bank, Attention: Andrea Osgood, Portland Street, Bridgton, ME 04009.
