RUMFORD – Two thousand Central Maine Power customers in the Rumford area lost power for 60 minutes late Thursday night and early Friday morning.

Central Maine Power spokeswoman Gail Rice said a tree limb, weakened by Wednesday’s gusting winds, fell on a utility pole. It knocked out power from 11:15 p.m. Thursday to 12:15 a.m. Friday.

Another 6,000 customers remained without power statewide as of 2 p.m. Friday from Wednesday’s 40 to 45 mph wind gusts, and Friday’s gusts of up to 50 mph, she added.

“We have had scattered outages just about everywhere throughout the day within our 11,000-mile service territory,” Rice said Friday afternoon.

She said that most of the outages stemmed from Wednesday’s winds.
