ST. JOHN, NEW BRUNSWICK – Kaleb Violette poured in 29 points and teammate Chris Rainville added 15 more as Central Maine Community College beat the University of New Brunswick, 78-53, handing UNB its first loss of the season in the championship game of the Can-Am men’s basketball tournament Sunday night.
The Mustangs jumped out early and never let up, leading at the half 41-33. James McLean led the scoring for New Brunswick (1-1) with 17 points, and Scot Hackey tossed in 13 more.
Patrick Dempsey and Kaleb Violette were named to the all-tournament team from Central Maine (2-0) for their outstanding play throughout the tournament.

Binghamton 2, Maine 0
VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton women’s soccer team captured its first America East Championship with a 2-0 win over the University in the title game at West Gym Field on Sunday.
The game was scoreless until the 34th minute when freshman Tricia Reed sent a header toward an empty Maine net. A Black Bear defender reached out and blocked the shot, but junior Meghan Taylor calmly knocked the ball into the top left corner to give the Bearcats a 1-9 lead. The Bearcats doubled their lead when sophomore Kelly Burnham knocked in a header from close range after classmate Caitlin O’Shaughnessy sent her own header out in front of the net.
