OTISFIELD – The money invested in combating milfoil infestation on Pleasant Lake and Parker Pond appears to be paying off, selectmen were told Wednesday.

Joel Bloom of the Pleasant Lake-Parker Pond Association reported there were numerous boat inspections done over the summer, Selectman Chairman Lenny Adler said.

The inspections and general awareness campaign is made possible by $4,000 appropriations from voters in the towns of Otisfield and Casco, $5,280 from the Lakes Environmental Association and another $6,000 raised by donations to the Pleasant Lake-Parker Pond Association.

The program, in its second year, provides for boat inspectors during the summer at the boat landings in Otisfield and Casco, on Pleasant Lake, and in Casco on Parker Pond.

In other action, selectmen agreed to close the transfer station off Oak Hill on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Road Commissioner Richard Bean said work on the salt storage shed was proceeding nicely. The walls are up, and workers are awaiting delivery of the trusses.
