MEXICO – Selectmen are expected to kick off their meeting Wednesday with further discussions on the town’s financial status and by setting the town manager’s job description.
The town has found itself with a deficit, estimated between $131,000 to a high of nearly a half-million dollars.
A recent audit report showed that the town has no carryover and an estimated debt of $131,000. Also, the town has borrowed $197,000 from its reserve accounts, and $200,000 with a tax anticipation note to aid in its cash flow.
The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. in the town office conference room.
Later in the meeting, appointments are expected for two residents to serve on the Town Manager Search Committee. The need for the creation of the ad hoc committee is the result of the resignation of Joseph Derouche, a 10-year veteran of the position, effective the end of the year. The manager’s job description is expected to include the number of hours required per week and a list of the primary responsibilities required of the position.
Selectmen are also expected to meet with the Wellness Center Board of Directors to discuss the current lease. The Wellness Center leases a portion of the town-owned, Mexico Recreation Center.
Other agenda items include the town manager, selectmen and road commissioner reports, a time for public discussion and a review of the town’s monthly budget status.
