RUMFORD – Dozens of people turned out Tuesday for the semiannual job fair held by the Maine Career Center at the River Valley Technology Center.

Chelsie O’Connell of Rumford was checking into a variety of jobs. She picked up applications at several of the dozen or so tables staffed by employer representatives.

At the Black Mountain of Maine table, she learned from the ski area’s general manager, Terrie Bennett, that the family-oriented ski resort needed about 20 people to fill food, beverage, administrative and ticket sales positions, and another 25 ski instructors. All positions are full- or part-time and seasonal.

Sunday River was also looking for people, as were MBNA of Farmington, Manpower of Auburn, Credit Control Services of Oxford, and other employers.

The Region 9 Adult and Community Education Program told participants of the varied vocational training programs available for truck driving, welding and certified nursing assistants.

Cheryl McLean, a counselor for the Maine Career Center, said the agency sponsors similar job fairs twice a year to show people where the jobs are and to let prospective employees know what employers expect of them.

The next job fair will be offered in spring.
