FARMINGTON – A coalition of Farmington-area groups concerned with peace and social justice invites area residents this Veterans Day, Nov. 11, in commemorating the victims of armed conflict. Members of the Women in Black, SEA Change, League of P.O.’ed Voters, Veterans for Peace and the Western Mountains Peace Action Workshop will stand in silence from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on the University of Maine at Farmington campus green at South Street, opposite the Student Center, while the names of American soldiers and Iraqi civilians who have died within the last year in Iraq are read. People are asked to wear black.

Maine genealogy

FARMINGTON – The Sandy River Valley Chapter of the Maine Genealogical Society will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, at the Farmington Public Library. The program on Winifred Staples Smith, author of “Pines and Pioneers,” will be presented by Joyce Orff. Anyone with an interest in genealogy is welcome.

Square dance set

WILTON – Friendship Squares Square Dance Club will host a square dance at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, at Cushing School. The caller will be Jim Belanger and the round dance cuer will be Kitty Doar. For information phone 778-9417.

Contra dance

FARMINGTON – A contra dance will be held from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, at the West Farmington Grange. Music this month will be provided by the West Farmington House Band. Sit-in musicians are welcome. Those who would like to learn the basics or who would like to brush up on their skills may attend the session at 7:30 p.m. prior to the dance. No partner is necessary and beginners are welcome. Admission is $5 or $10 family.
