AUGUSTA (AP) – Attorney General Steven Rowe said Tuesday that his office is suing two Maine companies and their executives over weight-loss products called Slim Patch and Bodylite Gel Patch.

The products were falsely advertised as helping people to lose weight with little or no exercise, Rowe said.

The civil complaint also accuses the defendants of, among other things, failing to honor advertised money-back guarantees and making unauthorized charges on customers’ credit cards.

“Consumers should not be misled by get-thin-quick schemes,” Rowe said. “There are no pills, patches, or magic potions for quickly and safely removing body weight. The best way to shed pounds is the old fashioned way: by reducing calorie intake and exercising regularly.”

The defendants are Brewer-based Integra Direct LLC and its president Vincent Wank, and Scarborough-based Infinity Marketing LLC, and Gregory Fletcher, who ran Infinity Marketing with Wank.

The companies and individuals named in the complaint could not be reached immediately for comment.

Rowe is seeking a permanent injunction against each of the four defendants, as well as civil penalties and costs.
