AUGUSTA – Stanley B. Newell, 79, of the Post Road, Bowdoinham, passed away Nov. 8, the Maine Veterans Nursing Home.

Born in Sumner, May 14, 1925, the son of Elliot and Edith (Barrett) Newell, after moving to Paris in the eighth grade, he graduated from Paris High in 1943.

He proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a corpsman during World War II. He was a 30-year member of the South Paris Fire Department and assistant fire chief for five years.

He was also a member of the Universalist Church in South Paris and the South Paris American Legion.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting, until he became the primary caregiver to his wife of 15 years, Barbara Newell, who passed in 2000. They were married in July 1944.

He worked for over 28 years at the A.C. Lawrence Co. in South Paris as an inspector.

He is survived by a son, Danny Newell and wife, Emilie, of Bowdoinham; daughter, Christine Michaud, of Florida; grandsons, Scot Newell, of South Paris and Dean Newell and wife, Melissa, of Texas; great-grandson, Connor Newell; sister, Elizabeth Bragg, of South Paris; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, beloved wife, Barbara, and brother-in-law, Walter Bragg.
