NEWRY – Following nearly 60 continuous hours of snow-making, Sunday River Ski Resort is scheduled to open for the 2004-05 season at 9 a.m. today.

The resort began making snow at midnight Sunday, said spokeswoman Susan DuPlessis in a Tuesday news release.

Risky Business, an intermediate trail on Spruce Peak, is open. The resort also expects to offer top-to-bottom terrain to South Ridge Base Lodge, with the Spruce Peak triple and South Ridge quad lifts in operation, she said.

“Snow-making will continue as long as temperatures allow, and terrain will expand rapidly as 92 percent of the 663 acres at Sunday River is serviced by snow-making,” DuPlessis said.

South Ridge is beginner terrain. By the weekend, the trails Ecstasy and Cascades, both intermediate trails on Barker Mountain, are expected to open, along with the Barker Mountain quad lift.

Lift-ticket prices for opening day are $30 for all ages, and a half-day ticket is $25 for all ages. More information may be obtained on the Internet at www.sundayriver.com.
