DIXFIELD – The Red Hat Mommas of Western Maine met at the American Legion on Oct. 27 for a roast pork dinner. Entertainment was put on by the Scoggin Cloggers. Red Hat pins were won by Lorraine Legere, Clara Allen and Margaret Deane. There were 48 members in attendance.

The next meeting will be on Sunday, Nov. 14, at the Penalty Box. Call Isabelle Duguay before Friday, Nov. 12, for reservations. The December meeting will be the Christmas party at Park Place on Dec. 15. The cost is $15, with money paid no later than Dec. 10.

Society speaker

RUMFORD – The Rumford Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, at the Rumford Municipal Building Conference Room. The speaker will be Sherri Judd of Jay, who will give an update on the progress of the Western Maine Pulp and Paper Museum.

The book, “The History of Rumford, Maine,” by Jack Leane and Elliot Burns will be available for purchase for $25 plus tax. The group will also discuss the best way to market the hard cover book, which includes the building of the town from its first settlers and the growth of the paper mill.
