Editor’s note: Every day there are rays of light that shine into the lives of people through their neighbors, their co-workers, their families and even through complete strangers. This column is devoted to exposing these sunbeams to the light and offering readers an opportunity to share good news. We plan to occasionally offer up our own sunbeams, too.
Tootsie drive
The Rumford area Knights of Columbus wish to express their sincere thanks to those wonderful, caring and generous people from Rumford, Mexico, Dixfield and the surrounding area who made our annual Tootsie Roll Drive a great success. As most people know, the money raised by this project is donated to the Oxford County Association for Retarded Children to help them continue their work in our communtiy. I am sure that the staff and all the people affiliated with the OCARC join us in thanking you.

Auction success
My wife, Betty, and I wanted to express out thanks for the success of the annual Chinese auction at the Agnes Gray School in West Paris Nov. 6.
We are very pleased with the final figures. Proceeds will be divided evenly between West Paris Olde Home Days and Tri-Town Rescue.
We can’t begin to list all the people and businesses that built up the over 600 items that went out to bid. There are many, many people who should be recognized for their efforts and we thank all of them so very much, they are all beautiful people.
Ted and Betty Jones, West Paris
Great service project
I would like to thank area residents again for their support during last year’s Thanksgiving holiday. Because of their generosity, we were able to provide over 100 families with Thanksgiving meals in the tri-county area.
This past year we have been extremely busy here at AWAP. Our shelter has been full and our outreach offices busy. Many families that we support are living below the poverty level or barely making a living wage.
Freedom from violence does come at a price. Many families will not sit down to a Thanksgiving meal without the generosity and support of caring community.
This year we are extremely short on donations for Thanksgiving dinners and need the public’s help.
Again, I want to thank the public for its support and ask that people open their hearts this year. We are looking for community members to provide Thanksgiving meals to families. This is a great service project for many businesses, schools and civic groups.
